Julia grew up at and on the river Elbe. She studied laws in her hometown Hamburg and started to focus on shipping in these times.​

As a keen sailor and working for a family owned traditional shipping company she collected a lot of experience in her sectors before joining the major international shipping law firm Ince & Co in 2002. She fully qualified as Rechtsanwalt in 2003.​

During her time at Ince & Co Julia originally dealt with all shipping related issues before building up her yachting practice as of 2007 and her aviation practice as of 2017.​

Julia was announced as salary partner in 2018 and thereafter co-headed the Yachting and Business Aviation unit at the Ince & Co Hamburg office jointly with Martin.​

In order to offer their clients their expertise, personal advisory and individual solutions, they jointly launched Upwind Legal.
